Series Of Fires Break Out In The East Bay

MOUNT DIABLO (CBS SF) – Cal Fire and local fire crews contained three vegetation fires in eastern Contra Costa County late Friday.

All three fires were ignited by lightning strikes around 8 p.m., according to San Jose fire Capt. Mary Gutierrez.

The first fire was located near Old Borges Ranch at 1035 Castle Rock in Walnut Creek and covers about 20 acres.

A fire at Morgan Territory Regional Preserve spread over about seven acres.

Another fire on Morgan Territory Road covered about six acres, according to Gutierrez.

Cal Fire and regional fire departments were using bulldozers and hand crews to create a perimeter and battle the fires, according to Gutierrez.

“All three fires were ignited by lightening strikes around….”

Wrong word CBSSF. Lightning is the noun, lightening is a verb

The lightning caused brilliant lightening of the night sky.
