San Jose Police ID Body Of Carjacking Victim, Killer At Large

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A woman found dead in a San Jose home Saturday morning has been identified as carjacking victim Cindy Nguyen, 60, of Campbell, but the man suspected of killing her in a violent crime spree remains at large.

Nguyen's body was reported Saturday morning in a home on the 500 block of North 12th Street, according to San Jose Police Sgt. Jason Dwyer.

Nguyen was a San Jose real estate agent and Vietnamese language radio host.

The carjacking occurred Friday around noon at The Plant shopping center at Monterey Road and Curtner Avenue, Dwyer said.

Castillo, a 33-year-old parolee wanted on a parole violation, is suspected of committing an armed robbery and shooting Friday morning a couple  hours before Nguyen's carjacking.

Dwyer said the suspect drove to the shopping center in a stolen vehicle, attacked a second victim and took his car, which was described as a white early '90s Toyota Camry.

A suspect in that robbery approached a man pumping gas at a  Chevron station on Lincoln Avenue around 10 a.m., produced a handgun and fired at least one round, striking the man.  The victim is expected to survive his injuries.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation, according to Dwyer, who said it might have been during a robbery.

KCBS' Betsy Gebhart Reports:

Detectives consider Castillo armed and extremely dangerous. Anyone coming into contact with Castillo should call 911 immediately, police said.

Castillo, 33, is still at large despite what police spokesman Sgt. Jason Dwyer said was "an exhaustive 11-hour search in the area where the suspect was last seen."

Castillo was last seen wearing a white or red shirt and dark-colored pants. He is described as a Hispanic man who is 5 feet 9 inches and weighs 210 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes and a thin mustache, police said.

KCBS' Mark Seelig Reports:

A no-bail warrant has been issued for Castillo's arrest in connection with these crimes. Police said Castillo is also wanted on a no-bail hold from the California Department of Corrections for violating the terms and conditions of his parole.

Police received the of a deceased person in the 500 block of North 12th Street at about 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

As of 11:30 a.m., homicide investigators were on the scene at the home and were awaiting the arrival of investigators with the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office.

Officers conducted a yard-to-yard search near Mabury and North King roads after police spotted a man resembling the suspect in the area.

The man did something that officers believed to be a threat and officers fired shots at the man, who then fled into an apartment complex, police Sgt. Jason Dwyer said.

It was not immediately known if the suspect returned fire.

Dwyer said police issued a shelter-in-place warning for the apartment complex that was in effect during the search.

Police say Castillo has ties to the address where Nguyen's body was discovered.
