San Francisco Could Warn Drivers By Text Before Towing
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – The chances of having your car towed in San Francisco could be reduced under legislation proposed at the Board of Supervisors.
Supervisor and mayoral candidate David Chiu said he wants the city to stream live data about tow-away locations.
"No one who parks in San Francisco wants to be towed, but it is often easy to miss the posting of a temporary tow-away zone, or even a permanent tow-away zone," said Chiu.
Retrieving a towed car in San Francisco costs a minimum of $450, with the price tag growing the longer the car is left in storage.

He said motorists could opt-in to a notification program that would send out a text message or email alert about tow away locations. The alerts would provide an early warning system for things like street cleaning, road work and special events, such as the recent Sunday streets event in North Beach where the city towed dozens of cars.
