Passenger Hospitalized After AC Transit Bush Crash

OAKLAND (CBS SF) - A vehicle crashed into an AC Transit bus Monday night in East Oakland, sending a bus passenger to the hospital, an AC Transit spokesman said.

The driver apparently ran a stop sign and struck the bus broadside at International Boulevard and 85th Avenue at 9:20 p.m., AC Transit spokesman Clarence Johnson said.

The driver initially fled but then returned to the scene.

About 40 passengers were on board the bus at the time of the collision. The glass windows on the side doors of the bus were shattered, and both vehicles sustained major damage, Johnson said.

A woman was injured and taken to the hospital. Johnson did not know the extent of her injuries.
