MORAGA (CBS SF) – A group of Saint Mary’s College students led an on-campus rally against sexual assault Wednesday afternoon on the heels of two reported rapes on campus over the past two weeks.

With help from the school’s Women’s Resource Center, students began the “Uniting our Voices, Breaking the Silence” rally at 1 p.m. in front of the college library. The event was meant to raise awareness about sexual assault, Saint Mary’s spokesman Michael McAlpin said Wednesday.

Police were investigating a report Sunday from a female student who said she was raped by two male acquaintances in an on-campus dorm room.

Moraga Police Chief Robert Priebe said Tuesday that an investigation into a separate rape reported on Sept. 13 on the campus was ongoing as police await lab test results. The case led to the arrest of an 18-year-old Saint Mary’s College sophomore.

Priebe said he planned to meet with college officials to discuss the incidents.

In a statement released Wednesday, McAlpin said the college is “committed to a campus environment that is safe for all students, free of violence, intimidation and harassment.”

Officials said resident advisers would hold educational sessions about sexual assault this week to provide students with resources to prevent and report sex crimes.
