Santa Rosa Pickup Driver With Dog In Carpool Lane Arrested For DUI

SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) - California Highway Patrol officers who pulled over a man driving with only his dog in the carpool lane Tuesday evening on U.S. Highway 101 in Santa Rosa arrested the man after he failed a sobriety test, CHP officials said.

Officers stopped the man's Ford pickup truck when it appeared to only be a man and his dog in the carpool lane around 5:10 p.m. near Hearn Avenue. After the man pulled over, officers noticed he seemed drunk, officials said.

The man did not have a driver's license with him but identified himself as Rohnert Park resident Martin Francis Reid, 48. A records check revealed that Reid's California license had expired in 1997. He claimed to have a Massachusetts license. That license was recorded as suspended, officials said.

Reid then failed field sobriety tests and was arrested, officials said.

He was booked on charges of DUI and driving while suspended.

After his arrest, the registered owner of the truck came to the scene to take the truck and the dog.
