2 San Rafael DUI Check Points Net 4 Arrests

SAN RAFAEL (CBS SF) -- Two DUI checkpoints in San Rafael Friday night netted as many drunken driving arrests, San Rafael police said.

The two checkpoints were conducted at the intersections of Third and Union streets and Irwin Street and Fifth Avenue starting at 6 p.m. and running until midnight. More than 1,500 vehicles passed through the checkpoints throughout the night.

Police asked 11 drivers to perform a field sobriety test. From those tests, two were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, police said.

One of the arrested drivers had a blood alcohol level of .267, police said. That is three times the legal limit, which is .08. The suspected drunken driver had attempted to evade the checkpoint by driving the wrong way down a one-way street, according to police.

Two other drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving with a suspended license.
