Suspect Shot Dead In San Francisco Richmond District Double-Stabbing

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A man stabbed both of his elderly parents, including his mother fatally, before being shot to death by a police officer inside a home in San Francisco's Richmond District on Monday morning, police said.

The stabbing was reported around 7:30 a.m. in the 600 block of Funston Avenue, police spokesman Lt. Troy Dangerfield said.

Officers arrived to find a 78-year-old man in the doorway with stab wounds to his forearm and hand, police said.

CBS 5 has since identified the man as Dennis Woo, a prominent member of the Chinese community.

The officers then went upstairs into the home and found a 78-year-old woman bleeding profusely from stab wounds to her upper torso, according to police.

As they were trying to pull the woman to safety, the officers were confronted by the 44-year-old suspect, who advanced toward the officers with a knife in each hand, police said.

An officer used a beanbag weapon against the man but it was ineffective, and the second officer then shot the suspect with his gun.

The two victims and their son were taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where the suspect was pronounced dead at 9:39 a.m. His mother succumbed to her injuries two minutes later, police said.

KCBS' Bob Melrose Reports:

A third victim, a 50-year-old woman who is the sister of the suspect, was found hiding in the back of the home in a locked bedroom and was unhurt.

The names of the suspect and victims are not yet being released, according to police and the medical examiner's office.

Tracy Passero, a woman who said she used to live next door to the home where the stabbing occurred before moving a block away a couple of years ago, said she was shocked to hear what happened.

"It's a really quiet, tranquil block," Passero said.

The officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the Police Department's homicide detail and internal affairs division, as well as the district attorney's office and the Office of Citizen Complaints, per standard procedure.

A community meeting about the shooting will be hosted by the Police Department in the Richmond District on Tuesday evening.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Richmond Recreational Center at 251 18th Ave. between Clement and California streets.
