OAKLAND (CBS SF) — Bay Area Rapid Transit customers overcharged for airport and long-term parking will be receiving a portion of $202,000 in refunds, BART officials said Wednesday.
The airport/long-term parking program allows BART customers to park longer than 24 hours at select stations at a rate of $5 per day.
Customers with reservations beginning or ending on a Saturday, Sunday or holiday are not supposed to be charged for those days, but BART received complaints from customers that this was not the case.
An investigation discovered that there was a problem with the configuration of the billing software used by Pacific Parking Management, the vendor contracted to charge for long-term parking, according to BART.
BART said 16,054 customers were affected by the error, and that the contractor will begin issuing over $200,000 in refunds.
Either affected customers will be issued an immediate refund to their credit cards, or if the card is no longer active, the company will attempt to contact the customer by email, phone or mail.
BART officials said if a customer does not receive a refund, but believes they were overcharged, they should contact Pacific Parking Management at (877) 442-6717 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
