Daily Madden: The Squirrel That Crossed Home Plate

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— During the MLB playoff game between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Philadelphia Phillies KCBS' Stan Bunger pointed out that a squirrel ran across home plate.

"I think the bowels of stadiums are good for rodents," John Madden said.

This lead to a discussion on how some stadiums have more rodents than others, of course depending on age.

The Daily Madden:

"Over in the [former Oakland] Coliseum we used to have rats down there.

This segued into more serious discussion of Terrell Owens' status in the NFL. Apparently the wide receiver has put a timeline on his return to football, giving him one month or less to come back after his ACL surgery.

Madden said he hadn't heard of any coaches itching to sign the aging player.

Finally though he's not the biggest fan, Madden acknowledged the start of the NHL season and the controversy surrounding issues of player safety and the amount of head shots hockey players endure.

"It takes the league coming down on them," Madden said when it comes to changing the culture of the sport to make it more acceptable to "come out" as an athlete who will admit that he has a concussion. Fans have taken to wearing pink hats as if to say the players "are sissys" if there is a crackdown in the sport.
