San Jose Police Officers Kill Armed Suspect Near School Campus
SAN JOSE (KCBS) – San Jose police officers shot and killed an armed suspect near a school campus Monday morning, according to police.
Officers were called to the area shortly after 6 a.m. after receiving reports that there was a person with a gun on or near the campus of the Central County Occupational Center on the 700 block of Hillsdale Ave, police Sgt. Jason Dwyer said.
Dwyer said the shooting happened during a confrontation between the suspect and two San Jose police officers who had responded after someone reported seeing a man walking in the area with a handgun.

It does not appear that the man fired his gun at the officers, Dwyer said. The man has not yet been identified.
About half an hour prior to that call, police had received a report of gunshots near Casselino Drive. Officers who responded did not find any victims. Later on, they found a car with bullet holes, and it is believed that the man killed was responsible for shooting at the car, Dwyer said.
"We don't have any reason to believe there are additional victims," he said.
Dwyer said that prior to the officer-involved shooting, the man left a blood trail for a few hundred yards on the sidewalk at the corner of Narvaez and Hillsdale avenues. It is unclear why the man would have been bleeding at that point, police said.
The Central County Occupational Center, which provides career-technical classes, was closed Monday. Classes will resume on Tuesday.
San Jose Police Sergeant Jason Dwyer said the department, which is down 66 officers, is now trying to handle three murders and two officer-involved shootings in just the past week.
"We're going to have to displace officers from certain areas of the city to respond to those scenes to help out," Dwyer said. "Now, there's a vacuum of officers in that area of the city. We're working through it, but this is not the ideal situation to be in for a police department."

In total, Santa Clara County has seen four officer-involved shootings in the past week. San Jose Independent Police Auditor LaDoris Cordell said so far, they have not received any questions or complaints about the recent shootings.
"But I'll know later in the week whether or not any members of the public have expressed concerns," said Cordell.
She said that despite the department being stretched thin, the shootings will all be investigated thoroughly.
