Suspect Flees On Foot In Downtown SF After Crashing Car During Chase

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- It was a wild scene early Sunday morning in a busy part of downtown San Francisco in the aftermath of a highway patrol chase involving a suspect vehicle.

Officials said the police department received a call around 11:30 p.m. Saturday alerting officers that CHP vehicles were in pursuit of a car near downtown San Francisco.

KCBS' Bob Melrose Reports:

The driver of the suspect car shot at CHP officers, who did not return fire, crashed his vehicle half a block from the TransAmerica Pyramid in the Financial District.

The suspect escaped on foot, disappearing into the darkness.

San Francisco Police spokesman Carlos Manfredi said a perimeter was set up.

"Obviously we're going to support the CHP officers in any way that we can to apprehend the suspects," Manfredi said.

No pedestrians or innocent bystanders were hit in the gunfire.
