SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – Winners of five Grammy Awards, the San Francisco Girls Chorus has been honored again.

The group placed second in the “Let the Peoples Sing” youth choir competition held by the European Broadcasting Union and the BBC this week in Manchester, England. The San Francisco group competed using a satellite feed from Skywalker Ranch in Marin County.

KCBS’ Rebecca Corral Reports:

The San Francisco Girls Chorus is the first-ever U.S. group to participate in the competition.

“They were so excited about being a part of this international competition,” said artistic director Susan McMane. “We knew that the finals would be very competitive, and that we would be broadcast all over the world, just by singing in it, so they were very excited.”

Its members sang against two other youth choirs, one from Estonia and another from Sweden. The Swedish group won the competition.
