CBS 5 Poll: SFPD Gets High Marks For Handling Of Occupy Protests
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) -- City of San Francisco residents applaud the restraint exercised by the SFPD in the face of Occupy San Francisco protestors, according to a newly released KPIX-TV CBS 5 poll.
A day after another CBS 5 poll of Oakland residents found significant displeasure with Oakland's mayor and the Oakland Police Department's reaction to Occupy Oakland protestors, reactions in the city of San Francisco were diametrically opposed.
The poll, conducted for CBS 5 by the firm SurveyUSA, found:
* 63% said San Francisco police had maintained control of the Occupy protest, compared to 23% who felt the SFPD had lost control.
* 81% said that the SFPD responded to the protest better than did the Oakland police, who made national news earlier this week by using tear gas in an attempt to disperse occupiers.
* San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee had a 49% approval rating amidst the Occupy protests, compared to 20% for Oakland Mayor Jean Quan.
This latest CBS 5 poll surveyed 500 San Franciscans on Thursday and had a margin of error between 3.5 and 4.5%.
