South City Police Offer Reward For Tips On 4 Unsolved Murders
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- The City of South San Francisco is offering a $25,000 reward for information on four unsolved homicides dating back to March last year, several of which involved teenaged victims, officials said Friday.
In the first of the unsolved shootings, Belmont resident Ronald Figueroa was standing in front of a home on the 300 block of Lux Avenue around 7:30 p.m. on March 23, 2010 when he was shot in the face. Figuroa, 29, died at the scene, police said at the time.
A vehicle seen in the area at the time was described as a red or orange four-door early 2000s Honda Civic with chrome rims.
In the second shooting, 15-year-old Jose Manuel Lopez was shot
around 7:30 p.m. while walking with another juvenile on the 800 block of Hickory Place on May 4, 2010, police said.
Investigators learned that a silver minivan, described as a late
1990s or 2000s model with tinted rear windows and sliding doors on both sides, had driven by Lopez and his friend. As it passed, the van stopped and a male exited, firing three or four shots before getting back inside the vehicle.
The van then fled north toward Olive Avenue.
In a third shooting, three men were killed and three others injured near the intersection of Eighth Lane and Linden Avenue around 7:15 p.m. on Dec. 22, 2010.
Omar Cortez, 18, and Gonzalo Avalos, 19, both South San Francisco residents, were pronounced dead at the scene, and a third victim died later in the hospital.
Witnesses told police they saw three male suspects in their late teens or early 20s driving away from the shooting in a dark-colored early 2000s model Chevrolet Impala with tinted windows.
And in the last shooting, on Sept. 20 this year, 14-year-old Joseph Maharaj and another teenager were shot around 8:50 p.m. on the 600 block of First Lane. Maharaj died at the hospital of his injuries, while the other victim was expected to survive.
As many as four suspects were seen driving up to the boys in a
black 2004 or 2005 four-door Honda Civic or Accord, police said at the time.
