Water Main Breaks In San Francisco Mission District

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Crews were working to get water to customers affected by a water main break in San Francisco's Mission District, a water department spokeswoman said Saturday evening.

The break in the 16-inch transmission line on 23rd Street between Potrero and Rhode Island streets was reported around 4:10 p.m., according to Maureen Barry, a spokeswoman for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission.

Work crews were working to backfeed water to that area from other mains nearby, Barry said. It is not clear how many residents, if any, have lost water as a result of the break.

The break occurred near San Francisco General Hospital, but has not caused flooding inside the hospital as some early reports suggested, according Rachel Kagan, a hospital spokeswoman.
