MORGAN HILL (KCBS) – A 14-year-old girl was killed in what Morgan Hill police believe may have been a gang-related shooting on Saturday night.

Investigators said a group of teens was standing outside an apartment complex at Del Monte and Cosmo Avenues around 9:30 p.m. when gunfire erupted.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found that four teenagers had been wounded. A 14-year-old Morgan Hill girl was declared dead at the scene. Two other teens suffered gunshot wounds to the leg and another was shot in the stomach.

Morgan Hill Police Captain Jerry Neumayer said that officers spotted a suspect vehicle fleeing the scene and were able to track it down at a nearby apartment complex.

“They surrounded the apartment complex and then called out the five suspects,” said Neumayer. “There were two firearms that were recovered and all five suspects were arrested. They will be booked into county jail and the one juvenile will be booked into juvenile hall.”

18-year-old Esmeling Bahena, 19-year-old Ricardo Diaz, 20-year-old Fernando Mateo, 23-year-old Primitivo Hernandez and a 17-year-old Morgan Hill boy were all arrested.

Neumayer said they believe the shooting may have been some type of retaliatory action and they are investigating it as gang-related. He said the victims are not believed to be gang members.

Police are looking for any other witnesses to help in their investigation.

This is Morgan Hill’s first homicide since a gang-related shooting in October of 2009.

Not surprised one bit. Morgan Hill has TOO many cops doing TOO little. We have provided to the MHPD pictures, addresses, phone numbers, text messages, facebook logs of KNOWN DRUG DEALERS in Morgan Hill… NOTHING… that’s what’s been done…NOTHING  . All teens should come to Morgan Hill, you can go to Champs and B.Q. will provide you with hard liquor out the back door, you can go to the Big 5 and the clerk’s boyfriend can get you oxy, you can have the Rite Aid accuse you of stealing when you weren’t even in town. You can go to a trailer a block behind the High School (yep, the cops in town do know of the “trailer”) and get as high as you’d like. BTW – if your daughter is missing, there was just an incident mid September of underage sex in THAT trailer. You can call 911…but don’t bother. I was told to call the non-emergency number, they don’t handle drug issues. Yep… they’ve really got things under control around here. Providing pictures, texts, phone numbers & addresses were a complete waste of time. These drug dealers run freely…

May G-d Almighty crush these guys for what they did. They took a young and beautiful life away, a daughter and a sister. When is the violence going to stop. People wake up and understand we are here as humans to love and respect each other, not to kill each other. The World is Built on Kindness. May G-d Almighty Bless the Family with strength during this tough time. One Love to All of Humanity.

the family grieves, and the thugs, well they get free room and board, medical, dental, and I’m sure a public defender who will attack the police for not giving them their rights and try to convince a jury (another added expense to taxpayers) that they didn’t mean to shoot the rifle they found on the ground, alll at the expense of the taxpayers. But of course, why not tie them to a tree and let the girl’s father and relatives perform the justice instead? Sure many taxpayers with daughters would love to join in too!

Bless this famliy at this time of their loss, And I Feel so bad that this baby had to lose her life to some dumb coward flucks who chose to open fire on a group of kids. But what I dnt understand is why people dnt have commomn sense to have life insurance on your loved ones ? It is not the responsiblity of the community to fork out money to bury and financially support. Understandably that everyone loved this baby as she was our own even though a lot of us did not know her, but come on let’s be real they are turning “TARA’S” death into a CASH COW ! CHA-CHING I personally believe they had insurance because the funeral arrangement are already set !!! and they are still doing all these fundraisers GREED at it’s finest if you ask me. R.I.P BABY GIRL
