San Francisco Examiner Sold To Canadian Group

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS / AP) -- The San Francisco Examiner will soon have a new owner.

Clarity Media Group said Friday the San Francisco newspaper is being sold to a consortium led by Black Press Group, a British Columbia-based company that publishes more than 170 newspapers in North America.

Denver-based Clarity Media bought the San Francisco Examiner from the Fang family in 2004.

Clarity CEO Ryan McKibben said it no longer made sense for the company to have a single newspaper on the West Coast. The publisher is now focusing its resources on the Washington, D.C. market and its recent acquisition of The Oklahoman newspaper.

The deal is expected to close on Nov. 30. The two privately held companies did not release details of the agreement.
