SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – An elderly man was robbed at his home in San Francisco’s Inner Parkside neighborhood Friday afternoon by two suspects posing as repairmen, a police spokesman said Monday.

The robbery occurred at about 12:50 p.m. Friday at a home in the 2300 block of 16th Avenue, police spokesman Sgt. Daryl Fong said.

The 83-year-old victim heard knocks on his door and opened it to see two suspects wearing yellow safety jackets who said they were with the city’s Water Department responding to a neighbor’s complaint about a leak, according to Fong.

Although the victim said he was not aware of any damage, the suspects entered the home and went to the kitchen, and one of them pulled a pipe or water supply line under the sink, causing a leak, Fong said.

The suspects intimidated the man, saying he could be sued by his neighbors if he didn’t have the leak fixed right away, and said repairs would cost a lot of money, according to police.

The victim said he was intimidated and went to his bedroom to get cash. When he came out, one of the suspects pushed him to the ground, took the cash and the pair ran out of the home, police said.

The two male suspects had not been found as of Monday morning. The first is described only as a white man in his early to mid-50s who said that the second suspect was his son, Fong said.

The victim was not injured in the robbery.

Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call the Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411.
