SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) — A San Leandro police officer became an instant hero as he saved a two-year-old boy from choking Friday morning, San Leandro police said.
Officer Jonathan Remulla responded to a call of an unresponsive child in the 2200 block of Warbler Court at 9:30 a.m. He found the child unconscious and unresponsive in the arms of his grandmother, police said.
He began performing first aid by checking for breathing.
Remulla noticed the child’s airway was blocked and used his pinky finger to remove what appeared to be food, police said.
Once the object was removed, the child began breathing again, police said.
Remulla monitored the child until Alameda County fire personnel arrived and took control of the child.
The child was transported by paramedics to a hospital for observation, police said.
