Young Teenagers Arrested In Series Of San Leandro Carjackings

SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) - Four teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of carrying out four carjackings this month in the San Leandro area.

Two vehicles were stolen on Nov. 12 at the Bayfair Center mall in San Leandro, where they were found shortly thereafter, said San Leandro police Sgt. Mike Sobek.

A third vehicle was carjacked on Nov. 16 near the Bay Fair BART station and a fourth vehicle was carjacked the next day, last Thursday, near the San Leandro BART station.

Those two vehicles were recovered Saturday within walking distance of two of the suspects' homes.

All stolen vehicles have been returned to their respective owners, Sobek said.

On Monday, police arrested a 13-year-old male from Oakland, a 13-year-old female from San Leandro and two 14-year-old males from Oakland on suspicion of carjacking, Sobek said.

A black BB gun, that police suspect was used during the multiple carjackings, was recovered from the female suspect at the time of the arrest, police said.

Police said the juvenile suspects have been taken into custody and that the investigation is ongoing. Police said there may be more arrests to come.

Police are not releasing the names of the juvenile suspects.
