Caltrain Delays After Baby Bullet Train Hits, Kills Person At Palo Alto Station

PALO ALTO (CBS SF) -- A person was struck and killed by a train in Palo Alto Saturday morning, according to a Caltrain spokeswoman.

At about 10:55 a.m., northbound train No. 801, a Baby Bullet express train, hit the unidentified person at the California Avenue Caltrain station in Palo Alto, spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew said.

About 320 passengers were aboard the train, which was not scheduled to stop at that station, she said.

Train service was temporarily suspended in both directions during the initial response by emergency personnel, she said. As of 11:55 a.m., a speed restriction was in effect near the site.

San Mateo County Transit Police were leading the investigation, Bartholomew said.
