CHUALAR, Monterey County (CBS SF) – A 14-year-old girl found murdered in a field in Monterey County last week has been identified.

Sheriff’s officials identified the victim as Maria Ambriz-Reyes, of Salinas.

Ambriz-Reyes was fatally shot and her body found by a farm worker when he was driving through a field near Old Stage and Esperanza roads at around 9:30 a.m., sheriff’s homicide Detective Matt Davis said.

She had been dead for about 15 to 24 hours before she was discovered, he said.
