Man Shot While Walking In East Palo Alto

EAST PALO ALTO (CBS SF) - A man was shot in the buttocks while he was walking in East Palo Alto on Tuesday evening, police said.

The city's ShotSpotter gunshot detection system registered gunfire in the 100 block of Verbena Drive at 7:31 p.m., police said.

Officers went to the street but didn't find anyone—but about an hour later, a 21-year-old East Palo Alto man turned up at a local emergency room with a gunshot wound, police said.

The victim told police he was walking near Camellia and Verbena drives when he heard gunshots, then realized he had been shot and fled.

He was treated at the hospital and released, police said.

No suspects have been identified, and the motive for the shooting remains under investigation, according to police.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call or text the East Palo Alto Police Department's anonymous tip line at (650) 409-6792.
