Tech Watch: Microsoft Delays Xbox Update

(KCBS) – Microsoft was all set to rollout a new user interface for the Xbox 360 on Tuesday morning, but the company has hit a snag.

CNET Editor at Large Brian Cooley said they are still unsure why the delay occurred.

"A lot of folks are hanging on this one because it will really change how your Xbox looks," he said. "And this is not just for gaming. This is more a living room, video viewing story. The new software will make this console much more that kind of device."

CNET Editor at Large Brian Cooley:

The update will add the tiles aesthetic seen on Windows phones and Windows 8, along with making it a multimedia hub with the inclusion of voice recognition, gesture controls, Bing search, television and social options.

Cooley said the update will also allow users to carry over their subscription from services such as XFINITY and log in through their Xbox. But many of the cable and satellite operators won't launch this service until early next year.

You can hear Brian Cooley's Tech Watch report Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1:50 P.M. on KCBS All News 740AM and 106.9FM.
