Richmond Teen Killed During Alleged Home Invasion Attempt

RICHMOND (CBS SF) - A 19-year-old Richmond man was killed and another man wounded Wednesday night in a shooting that occurred during a botched home invasion robbery, a police lieutenant said.

A resident of the 400 block of South 35th Street shot both men after they attempted to rob the home shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday, Lt. Bisa French said.

"The resident fought back and ended up shooting them," she said.

Police were alerted to the shooting by the city's SpotShotter gunshot detection system and found the 19-year-old intruder—whose name has not yet been released—around the corner from the home.

He was transported to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Richmond where he was pronounced dead, French said.

The second man who was shot remained in the hospital Thursday under police custody.

Several residents were inside the home during the attempted invasion, but none were seriously injured, French said.

Police are still investigating the case and say there may be additional suspects.
