Washington State Defeats Santa Clara 93-55
PULLMAN, Wash. (CBS/AP) -- Brock Motum scored a career-high 27 points to lead Washington State to a 93-55 victory against Santa Clara on Sunday.
Charlie Enquist had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Cougars (6-4).
"He (Enquist) has been really impressive," WSU coach Ken Bone said. "He's been playing really good basketball and he did it tonight in 22 minutes against a very good ball club."
Kevin Foster scored 16 points, Niyi Harrison 14 and Evan Roquefort 12 for the Broncos (5-3).
Washington State dominated inside, posting a 33-25 rebounding advantage and outscoring Santa Clara 44-22 in the paint.
"Brock and I are roommates and we hang out and talk about these situations," Enquist said. "If he doesn't get the ball all the way to the hoop, I know he's looking for me."
The Cougars had runs of 9-2 and 8-0 in the final seven minutes of the first half to take a 48-27 lead into the break.
Washington State shot 67.4 percent (31 of 46) from the field, including 46.2 percent (6 of 13) from 3-point range.
Bone credited the Cougars' defense for holding the Broncos' hot perimeter game to three 3-pointers on 15 attempts.
"They average 28 points (off 3-pointers) a game," Bone said. "(Stopping that) was a high priority to us, and I thought our guys did a nice job."
