SAN JOSE (KCBS) – High tech workers formerly employed by Solyndra are getting some much-needed help in the search for new jobs. Two cities are holding career fairs specifically for laid off workers of the failed solar start-up.

The career fairs in San Jose and Newark are being offered to the roughly 1,000 laid off from Solyndra earlier this summer.

“We’re really interested in serving as many people as we can,” declared Jeff Ruster with San Jose’s Economic Development Office.

Ruster said that the reemployment services being offered include skill assessments, occupational training, job postings and more. He is optimistic that former Solyndra workers will be able to find new employment in manufacturing.

“The top ten contract manufacturing firms, the top ten largest in the world are all located in and around San Jose. So a lot of the jobs that Solyndra employees were doing would be applicable for those kind of jobs, as well as with clean technology companies that are emerging as well.”
KCBS’ Matt Bigler Reports:

The career fairs were scheduled for Monday and Wednesday at the NUMMI Career Transition Center, 1401 Parkmoor Ave., Suite 200, San Jose and Friday at Ohlone College’s One-Stop Career Center, 39399 Cherry St., Rm. 1211, Newark.
