CONCORD (CBS SF) — Concord police have arrested a teen believed to be responsible for shooting and killing at least two dozen waterfowl at Concord parks in the past few months.

Between Oct. 27 and Dec. 8 there were five reported cases of animal cruelty, with about 24 waterfowl, specifically geese and ducks, shot to death with pellets or small caliber bullets at Newhall Community Park and Willow Pass Community Park, located at 1351 Newhall Parkway and 2748 E. Olivera Road, respectively.

Investigators found a person of interest in the waterfowl deaths and on Friday arrested a 17-year-old Concord resident, police said.

The male juvenile was arrested in connection to the duck and geese shootings and was being held at the Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall, police said.

Because of the suspect’s age further details cannot be released, police said.

Anyone with more information about the killed waterfowl are asked to call Lt. Tim Runyon at (925) 603-5902 or an anonymous tip line at (925) 603-5836.

This young man should be held accountable for his crimes and should have a mental evaluation regarding his sanity…….

  2. 12know says:

I figured it was probably a teen with nothing better to do with himself. Probably acting out some hostility on innocent animals. This kid needs to be locked up for a long time. Kids who hurt animals end up hurting humans.

Young man? How about “This JERK” should be locked up and committed for mental evaluation to ensure he’s locked up for a while.

  4. Birdluver says:

Oh good. Will there be a group discount if we get together a bunch of like-minded individuals to take potshots at him with pellets and/or small caliber guns? Please?

  5. Dawg says:

Jeffrey Dahmer started as a youth torturing and killing animals and we all know what he grew up to be. I’m not saying this kid is a sociopath but I agree with the other posts here, he needs to be evaluated and if he is indeed a sociopath, then there is no hope for him, he will never be remorseful for any of his actions, and most likely will grow up into a serial killer.

  6. Disgusted says:

Did this piece of human waste think this was a video game and was trying to get a high score?! The poor ducks and geese weren’t harming anything. This creature should be locked up for everyones’ safety. Serial killers start like this.

turn him around!! — this young man needs to spend time at an animal rehabilitation center — give him community service there — have him demonstrate empathy
