OAKLAND (KCBS) — Labor leaders in Oakland said they will help Mayor Jean Quan defeat the campaign to recall her from office.

Machinists, dockworkers, electricians and other members of the Alameda Labor Council gathered on Monday to announce they want the recall stopped and if it qualifies for the ballot, they will campaign to help Quan.

Union leader Josie Camacho said Quan doesn’t deserve to lose her job over the way she handled Occupy Oakland.

KCBS’ Doug Sovern Reports:

“That isn’t reason to recall a mayor,” she said. “I think that’s ridiculous.”

But recall organizer Charles Pine said it’s the voters who want Quan gone.

“She has diminishing support,” he said. “Her approval rating is hovering at about 30 percent or less.”

This is the only time in my life I wished I lived in Oakland. Just so I could sign the recall petition. I don’t think a recall will cost near as much as she has wasted with the occupy problems. She should have never let it happen in the first place.

Typical of unions. Professional incompetence is no reason to fire someone.

“OUTRAGEOUS!” is what the union rep said on the radio, about the citizens of Oakland asking for a recall. Now, you may no agree with the effort , but to call it outrageous is un-american. Since when is it outrageous to practice free speech and dissent? It was outrageous that the mayor didn’t handle the
occupy folks better and apparently doesn’t have the backbone to take a stand on anything. The mayor is loosing Oakland’s opportunity to draw jobs and these union reps better take a long hard look at what is happening.

Sleepy Jean is an incompetent, but she’s OUR incompetent. The labor movement masters have spoken.

Testing? Technical problems? I submitted a comment yesterday critical of CBS coverage on this topic. But it never appeared.
