Oakland Driver In Fiery Crash After Being Shot

OAKLAND (CBS SF) - A 23-year-old man was in critical condition after being shot while driving near Children's Hospital in Oakland Thursday morning, police said.

Officer Johnna Watson said police received several calls from residents in the vicinity of 46th and West streets at 10:24 a.m. reporting that they heard gunfire.

Watson said officers who responded to the scene determined that the man, who was alone in his car, had been shot multiple times near that intersection and that his car then crashed into two parked cars.

KCBS' Anna Duckworth Reports:

The man's vehicle then caught fire, and firefighters were called to extinguish the blaze, she said.

The victim was critically wounded and was transported to a hospital, Watson said.

She said investigators don't yet know if the shooter was on foot or in another vehicle.

It appears that no one else was injured in the shooting, Watson said.

She said officers were canvassing the neighborhood and knocking on doors to try to find witnesses.
