Tech Report: The Year In Tech

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – While 2011 was once again filled with technological gadgets and breakthroughs, it was also about the people.

KCBS Technology Analyst Larry Magid said he was actually a bit underwhelmed by the gadgets that hit the market this year.

"I was not overwhelmed by the gadgets that came out in 2011. There were some cool things like the iPad 2, new iPhones and new TV's," said Magid. "But at the end of the day, I realized it was the people that really were the big stories of the year."

Magid said that the obvious headline was the passing of Steve Jobs. But there were plenty of others in the news.

"The biggest stories were hacktivism and activism and what happened in the Middle East. Even the Occupy movement and to some extent the Tea Party movement, how people use technology to advance their political views," he said.

Magid said that coming up in 2012, he expects technology and social media to continue to play a huge role in the political landscape around the world and here in the United States with the Presidential election coming up in November.
