First Bay Area Baby In 2012 Born In Castro Valley

CASTRO VALLEY (CBS SF) – The first baby born in the Bay Area in 2012 arrived at the stroke of midnight at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley.

Hospital spokeswoman Cindy Dove said Sophia Trigueros was born just as 2012 began on the West Coast to her happy parents, Amelia and Mauricio Trigueros of San Lorenzo.

Sophia weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces at birth and was a little less than 20 inches long.

The second baby appears to have been born at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Santa Clara at 12:01 a.m.

Kaiser spokesman Karl Sonkin said a baby named Brenda was born there. She weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces and was 19 inches long.

It's believed that the first baby in San Francisco was born at 12:02 to the Wong family at California Pacific Medical Center.
