Occupy Oakland Protesters Have Permit Revoked
OAKLAND (CBS SF) – Occupy Oakland protesters are once again facing eviction from Frank Ogawa Plaza as police have revoked their permit to maintain a presence outside City Hall.
The permit was a three-day temporary permit that according to Oakland city officials, was extended several times. It allowed for protesters to put a teepee and information table up at Frank Ogawa Plaza, but did not allow for overnight camping, littering or illegal activities.
KCBS' Susan Kennedy Reports:
On Monday, police revoked the permit because they said there was drug use and food giveaways at the site.
Protester Ali said it is just a reason for authorities to clear the plaza again.
"I'm not leaving. I'm not leaving at all," he said. "There's a lot of other people that are not leaving. There has to be change. If we just leave because they said so, then we're not really standing for anything."
The teepee and table are still up and protesters said it is not known if and when police might move in to clear the plaza.
There were a series of arrests last Friday at Frank Ogawa Plaza after confrontations between protesters and police.
Ali said that police have become more aggressive in dealing with protesters.
