SAN JOSE (CBS SF) – The travel industry is becoming an out of this world experience for one Silicon Valley travel agent.

Lynda Turley Garrett is expanding her business to include selling tickets to those looking to travel into space.

“I’m the president of Alpine Travel in Saratoga and I’m an accredited space agent for Virgin Galactic,” she said.

KCBS’ Matt Bigler Reports:

Turley Garrett is one of the few selected by Richard Branson’s space airline to sell $200,000 tickets for flights aboard SpaceShip Two.

The first 500 tickets have already been sold, three of them by Alpine Travel.

“We have some very wealthy people. There are some celebrities,” Turley Garrett said. “And then there are some people who just want to do this for the scientific part of it and some just for a thrill.”

Virgin Galactic hopes its first space flight will take off later this year.

Space tourism could be a growth industry as two specialty airlines besides Virgin are taking reservations for future space flights.
