Vehicle Carjacked In San Francisco's Bayview Found Torched

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A man was carjacked in San Francisco's Bayview District on Monday evening and officers later found the car torched, police said.

Around 5:10 p.m. Monday, a 59-year-old man was driving north on Bayshore Boulevard when he stopped at a traffic light at Third Street, police said.

The victim heard tapping on his car window, and turned to find a masked man pointing a gun at him, according to police.

The suspect opened the car door and pulled the man out, then drove away. The victim, who was not injured, called police.

Officers responded and searched the area for about three hours until they found the vehicle, which had been lit on fire in the first block of Hare Street off of Middle Point Road in Hunters Point.

Firefighters responded and battled the blaze, which took about two hours to completely extinguish, according to police.

The suspect, described as a man in his late teens or early 20s, has not been found. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Police Department's anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411.
