Phil Matier: Co-Chair Of 'Run, Ed, Run' Campaign Appointed SF Supervisor

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee appointed Planning Commission President Christina Olague to the city's Board of Supervisors on Monday.

Olague, 50, will replace District 5's Ross Mirkarimi, who was elected sheriff.

KCBS and Chronicle Insider Phil Matier described her background as being "very progressive" and on the "left side" of the bench.

The Central Valley daughter of farm workers will be running a very progressive district—Haight-Ashbury according to Matier.

KCBS and Chronicle Insider Reports:

"You can't get much more progressive than that part of town," he said.

Matier suspects that the moderate mayor picked her because of the makeup of the district, but also because Olague was also one of the co-chairs of the 'Run, Ed, Run' campaign.

"Of all the progressives to pick, at least he got one that's wearing his jersey early on," he said.

Matier said the mayor's left-leaning pick will buy some time for her to get along with the current Board of Supervisors and that she'll likely wait it out and get elected to her chair.
