Discovery Bay Pair Arrested In Staged Gas Station Robbery

DISCOVERY BAY (CBS SF) - Sheriff's deputies arrested two suspects in Discovery Bay Wednesday in connection with an armed robbery of a local Safeway gas station last Sunday.

Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office spokesman Jimmy Lee said Discovery Bay residents Dorian Swigart, 35, and 21-year-old Christopher Nelson are believed to have committed the armed robbery shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday at the gas station located in the 14800 block of state Highway 4.

Lee said that Nelson and Swigart—former co-workers at the gas station—apparently conspired to rob the store, where Nelson was employed during the crime.

Swigart allegedly donned a black ski mask and entered the store armed with a handgun, then demanded Nelson, who was apparently posing as a victim, to empty the cash register, according to Lee.

Police arrested Swigart Wednesday for alleged robbery, burglary, and conspiracy and on suspicion of possessing and transporting an illegal substance. She is being held in county jail on $70,000 bail, Lee said.

Nelson was arrested on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy and embezzlement and is being held on $80,000 bail.
