Gas Pipeline Rupture Sparks Fire Near Rio Vista

RIO VISTA (CBS SF) – A natural gas pipeline ruptured east of Rio Vista on Friday night, sparking a fire that shot up large flames.

The fire was near a compressor plant in the middle of a dirt field off Highway 160, south of Highway 12. It started around 6 p.m. and was out before 6:30.

According to Capt. Scott Bahrenfuss of the Rio Vista Fire Department, the pipe was an 8-inch line that was isolated in a field near a well head.

Vintage Production, which owned the gas line, was able to shut it down. The company produces natural gas.

No structures were threatened in the fire and no injuries were reported.
