Embarcadero Center, Coit Tower Light Up Red For 49ers

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- The rooftops of the Embarcadero Center will be illuminated with 1,600 red lights this week in support of the San Francisco 49ers as the team prepares for its first NFC Championship game since 1998 on Sunday.

The rooftops of One, Two, Three and Four Embarcadero Center will glow red starting Tuesday evening and will be lit red each night leading up to the playoff game this Sunday, when the 49ers host the New York Giants -- and perhaps all the way to the Super Bowl, Embarcadero Center officials said.

The four high-rise buildings will be lit at 4 p.m. each day and the lights will remain on until midnight.

Meanwhile, the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department said Coit Tower will also be lit in red leading up to Sunday's game.

"We are proud to show our faithful support to the 49ers by lighting Coit Tower," said, Phil Ginsburg, RPD General Manager. "We say to San Franciscans, get out and cheer for the 49ers!"

Coit Tower was lit up at night with the color orange two years ago when the San Francisco Giants went to and won the World Series. City officials hope the red light will bring the 49ers similar luck.
