Some Saints Fans Describe Hostile Atmosphere At 49ers Playoff Game

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – A New Orleans Saints fan is offering a contrasting view to what's been described by just about all accounts as a great game at Candlestick Park on Saturday, asserting that he and his daughters were harassed and threatened by San Francisco 49ers fans the entire game.

The Saints fan asked us not to use his name out of fear for his family's safety. He said that he has lived in the Bay Area for 25 years, and his two teenage daughters were excited about going to Saturday's game decked out in their Saints jerseys.

"We got into the parking lot and just immediately started getting yelled at and cursed at, and people were getting in our faces," he said. "At first it seemed kind of funny and amusing, but then they got closer and closer and more intense."

KCBS' Anna Duckworth Reports:

Once inside, he said Niners fans directed slurs laced with expletives toward him and his daughter and another couple who were Saints fans nearby, at one point threatening to kill them if they cheered for their team.

"It was just traumatizing for my daughters and for me, and even though it was a great game, it was just an unbelievably hostile and intimidating experience," said the fan.

San Francisco police beefed up their presence at the game by 25 percent, and arrested 19 people on mostly alcohol-related misdemeanor charges during and after the game.
