Fire Causes $100K In Damage At San Jose Barber Shop

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - Firefighters tackled a two-alarm blaze that caused about $100,000 in damage to a San Jose barber shop Wednesday morning.

Dispatchers received a report of the fire at 9:47 a.m. from someone inside the shop at North Seventh and East Hedding streets, fire Capt. Mary Gutierrez said.

"Someone inside tried to extinguish it unsuccessfully," she said, although everyone was able to escape without injury.

The first arriving unit found thick black smoke billowing from the one-story shop, which is nestled between adjacent businesses.

Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to other businesses, and had it controlled by 10:30 a.m., Gutierrez said.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, although Gutierrez said someone reported seeing fire in the shop's kitchen area.

No injuries were reported.
