Bay Bridge Closure Likely To Push Traffic Onto Golden Gate
SAUSALITO (CBS SF) - Officials at the Golden Gate Bridge expect a spike in traffic over Presidents Day weekend, when the upper deck of the Bay Bridge will be closed for construction.
The way transit planners see it, just because the westbound Bay Bridge will shut down for nearly four days - from the evening of February 17 until the morning of February 21 - that doesn't necessarily mean that people won't drive into San Francisco. The eastbound direction of the Bay Bridge will still be open and there are alternative routes into the city.
"We expect increased traffic," summed up Golden Gate Bridge Captain Lisa Locati. "The Bay Bridge closure is only one direction and that typically doesn't deter a lot of people from traveling, because they know they can still get around."

According to Locati, during the last Bay Bridge closure - which was to allow work on the new eastern span - Golden Gate Bridge traffic was up by as much as 40%.
