No. 4 Stanford Routs Arizona For 17th Straight Win 91-51
TUCSON, Ariz. (CBS / AP) -- Joslyn Tinkle had a career-high 22 points and matched her career best with 11 rebounds, leading five starters in double figures in No. 4 Stanford's 91-51 rout of Arizona on Saturday, the Cardinal's 17th win in a row.
Stanford (20-1, 11-0 Pac-12) hasn't lost since being beaten at Connecticut on Nov. 4. Stanford beat the Wildcats for the 21st time in a row, a streak that dates to 2004.
Chiney Ogwumike scored 18, her sister Nnemkadi 15, Toni Kokenis 11 and Amber Orrange 10 for the Cardinal, who shot 50 percent to Arizona's 29.5 percent.
Candice Warthen led the Wildcats (13-10, 2-9) with 13 points. Shanita Arnold added 10 points and Aley Rohde had nine points and 11 rebounds.
The Wildcats, who lost their sixth in a row, were coming one of their best performances of the season on Thursday night, a 78-74 overtime loss to California, a team that took Stanford into overtime before losing 74-71 a week ago.
Stanford made its first five shots to go up 10-0. After the outmatched Wildcats cut it to 13-7, the Cardinal went on an 18-2 run to go up 31-9 on Chineyu Ogwumike's rebound basket with 9:55 still to be played in the half.
Arizona managed to cut it to 17 before Stanford finished the half with a 5-2 spurt to make it 51-31 at the break.
Kokenis sank a 3 to start the second half to trigger a 25-5 outburst en route to Stanford's most one-sided conference win of the season. Orrange was 5 of 5 from the field while Kokenis had five steals.
The rout followed a pair of closer contests for the Cardinal. First there was the Cal overtime game, then on Thursday night Arizona State was in a 40-40 tie before Stanford pulled away to win 62-49.
Tinkle, a 6-foot-3 junior from Missoula, Mont., averaged 7.1 points and 4.9 rebounds coming into the contest. Her previous career best was 20 points twice, most recently against Colorado on Jan. 14. Tinkle made 8 of 15 shots, including 3 of 4 3-pointers as Stanford sank 8 of 25 3s. The bigger, more athletic Cardinal had a 22-5 advantage in second-chance points.
Arizona was without leading rebounder, Erica Barnes, who sat out her third game in a row with a concussion.
The Wildcats last beat Stanford 88-83 on Feb. 5, 2004.
