Remains Of Another Victim Of Central Valley Killer Found, Identified

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Human remains uncovered in Northern California with the help of a convicted serial killer have been preliminarily identified as one of his victims.

San Joaquin sheriff's spokesman Les Garcia said dental records identified the remains found Thursday in Calaveras County as those of Cyndi Vanderheiden.

Garcia said Saturday that authorities are still awaiting the results of a DNA analysis to confirm the identification.

Searchers following a map prepared by convicted killer and death row inmate Wesley Shermantine have so far uncovered two sets of remains.

Investigators believe Shermantine and childhood friend Loren Herzogmay are responsible for as many as 15 killings. They were called the "Speed Freak Killers" because of their methamphetamine-fueled 1980s killing spree.

Authorities continued searching an abandoned well Saturday where Shermantine has said up to 10 additional bodies could be.
