Woman Killed In Oakland Shooting

OAKLAND (KCBS) – Oakland police are investigating a fatal early morning shooting on Saturday in the city's Fruitvale neighborhood.

Oakland police spokesperson Johnna Watson said that 911 calls started coming in just before 6 a.m. on reports of a shooting right off Fruitvale Avenue.

"The Oakland Police Department received information that there was gunshots heard in the 2800 block of 35th Avenue," she said. "When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered two individuals were inside a vehicle."

The two individuals, an adult female and adult male, both were suffering from gunshot wounds. Watson said that medical personnel pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

KCBS' Anna Duckworth Reports:

The man was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Watson said the circumstances are a bit unusual because it was a female victim.

"A female victim. That is not common as mostly we're seeing male victims," she said.

Investigators were out for hours at the scene of the crime, trying to talk to anyone who might have information on the shooting.

There is no suspect information at this time and there have been no arrests. The murder is the 15th for the city of Oakland so far in 2012.
