UC Berkeley Student Survives Fall From Side Of Fraternity House

BERKELEY (CBS SF) -- A University of California at Berkeley student fell two stories from the side of a fraternity building and suffered severe head trauma Saturday night, Berkeley police said.

Officers received a call at 11:34 p.m. about a person who had fallen from the backside of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity at 2395 Piedmont Ave., police said.

Responding officers found a male student in his 20s unconscious and bleeding, suffering from obvious head trauma.

Berkeley Fire Department paramedics transported him to a hospital where he was treated for several injuries including severe head trauma, police said.

Officers said the student "displayed objective symptoms" of being under the influence of alcohol.

A witness said the student was trying to scale down the side of the building using the drainpipe when it separated from the building, causing him to fall backwards and hit the ground, according to police.

Police said there was no evidence of foul play and are classifying the case as an accident.
