Gunman Sought In Series Of Marin Gas Station Robberies

Video from San Rafael Police Dept.

SAN RAFAEL (CBS SF) - San Rafael police were asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect in a series of armed robberies at Terra Linda area gas stations.

Two February robberies appear to have been committed by the same person, according to police.

At about 11 a.m. Tuesday, a suspect entered a gas station on Del Presidio Way and approached the clerk and threatened him with a handgun. The suspect then demanded cash, police said.

A struggle ensued and the suspect struck the clerk in the head with his gun before fleeing. The clerk was treated at a hospital and later released, police said.

The suspect was described as a white man somewhere between 20 and 30 years old who is between 6 feet and 6 feet 6 inches tall with a slender medium build. He had shoulder-length blond hair pulled back in a braided ponytail and facial stubble, according to police.

Two weeks earlier, on Feb. 14 around 1:30 p.m., a lone gunman flashed a gun at a cashier at Gateway Gas at 1005 Northgate Drive. The robber demanded money before fleeing on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

He was last seen running toward Manuel T. Freitas Parkway.

The suspect was described as a tall, thin man between 20 and 30

years old with a light mustache and stubble. He was seen wearing a black baseball cap with a "New Era" foil sticker on the bill and a black hooded sweatshirt, according to police.

Based on a composite sketch and video surveillance footage from the Feb. 14 robbery, police believe the same man is responsible for both holdups.

Anyone with information is asked to call San Rafael police at (415) 485-3000 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477. Anonymous tips can be sent online at www.srpd.org/tips or www.bayareacrimestoppers.org.
