1 Dead, 4 Hurt In Separate Oakland Shootings

OAKLAND (CBS SF) - A man was killed and four others wounded, including two children, in two separate shootings in Oakland Monday night.

In one incident, the driver of a Bentley died after being shot and then crashing head-on into another car.

The Bentley driver, identified as 34-year-old Oakland resident Kelly Giles Surrell II, was behind the wheel on Monday evening when he was shot in east Oakland, according to police.

The man continued driving and collided with a Chevrolet Monte Carlo at 86th and Bancroft, police said.

The Bentley driver was taken to Highland Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Two children in the Monte Carlo were treated at a hospital for minor injuries, while two other adults in the car were not hurt.

Another shooting that Oakland police said doesn't appear related happened about 15 minutes earlier in West Oakland when two people were shot in the 1400 block of Peralta Street.

Two adult males were found with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and taken to the hospital.

No suspects were identified in that shooting.
