SF Zoo Forced To Euthanize Andean Bear

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) - San Francisco Zoo's last Andean bear has died.

Zoo officials said Wishbone was put down this week after it lost the use of its hind legs from a suspected neurological illness.

The 25-year-old male bear was born at the Los Angeles Zoo, but spent most of its life in San Francisco.

It was taken out of its exhibit last month and monitored to see if its legs would improve. But zoo officials said they did not.

The zoo now only has polar and grizzly bears.

Wishbone was the third animal to die at the zoo in the last two weeks. The others were a 42-year-old gray seal and a 41-year-old black rhino.
